This individual will have a deep commitment to youth education in the arts and bring experience in theatre, dance, or music education. This role is ideal for a teaching artist who excels in classroom management, values inclusivity, and thrives in a team-oriented environment. Teaching artists will also lead classes, workshops, and camps, fostering a supportive environment for students and families alike. Teaching schedules range but our programming typically runs between 8:30am-8pm, 7 days a week. Specific schedules are set three months before programming begins and will remain consistent throughout each session. Additional hours may be requested for subbing.

This position will guide students through skill-building activities that foster a love for creative expression and personal growth in areas such as acting, voice, and dance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Instruction for classes
  • Create lesson plans and lead weekly classes for ages 4-18, focusing on foundational theatre skills, confidence, and self-expression.
  • Serve as the lead coordinator for all program activities, managing schedules and materials to ensure classes run smoothly.
  • Facilitate a welcoming, positive learning environment where students feel valued, confident, and inspired.
  • Direct students through the process of rehearsing and presenting a final short performance, emphasizing the skills they gain throughout the class and/or productions.
  • Maintain accurate class schedules and attendance records in ICDT!s system, coordinating with administrative staff to streamline registration and data tracking as needed.
  • Contribute to creating and upholding education policies that foster an inclusive, supportive classroom environment.

Possible Additional Responsibilities:

  • Organize seasonal camps and workshops, particularly during school breaks, while expanding curriculum offerings based on student and parent feedback.
  • Participate in all relevant staff meetings, including one training meeting prior to each semester.
  • Attend ICDT! performances as part of community engagement, with occasional support at these events as needed.
  • Represent the program at community events and maintain strong relationships with families, schools, and arts organizations to build awareness and support.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in arts or youth education, with specific experience in musical theatre, dance, acting, or music.
  • Experience with working with children ages 4-18
  • Bachelors degree in education, theatre, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Demonstrated abilities in classroom management, curriculum planning, and relationship-building with students and families.
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to work with students of various backgrounds and abilities.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills, with an ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.

Our Ideal Teaching Artist is:

  • Creative, patient, and adaptable, with an ability to inspire confidence and collaboration in a classroom setting.
