Job Description

WellSpan Health is seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist/POC/MLT to join our Laboratory Services team within our leading regional healthcare system serving South-Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland. In this role, you will perform a broad range of clinical laboratory tests and play a key role in managing and supporting point-of-care (POC) testing across our hospitals, outpatient centers, and primary care practices. Your work will directly support high-quality, patient-centered care and the overall wellness of the communities we serve. As a Medical Technologist/POC/MLT, you will perform moderate and high complexity testing in areas such as hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, microbiology and immunology, depending on departmental needs and your experience. You will accurately receive and process specimens, operate and maintain laboratory analyzers and POC devices, perform routine and advanced quality control procedures, and ensure that all testing meets regulatory and accreditation standards. You will use our laboratory information system and electronic medical record to enter, verify, and release results, communicating critical values promptly to providers and clinical teams. A key focus of this position is supporting and coordinating point-of-care testing throughout the organization. You will help implement and maintain POC instruments, participate in validation and correlation studies, monitor quality and proficiency testing, and assist in training and competency assessment for nursing and other clinical staff who perform POC testing. You will collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure that bedside and clinic-based testing is accurate, reliable, and integrated into patient care workflows. Working within WellSpan Health’s collaborative and inclusive culture, you will partner with fellow laboratory professionals, nurses, physicians, and other care team members to solve problems, improve processes, and enhance patient outcomes. You will follow established procedures for specimen identification, handling, and infection prevention to maintain a safe environment for patients and staff. You will prioritize work effectively to meet turnaround times, support emergent and STAT testing, and contribute to on-call or rotating shifts as needed to maintain 24/7 laboratory operations. WellSpan Health values professional growth and innovation in healthcare, and you will be encouraged to expand your skills through ongoing training, continuing education, and participation in quality improvement projects. You may assist in orienting and mentoring new staff, students, or residents, helping to build a strong, engaged laboratory team. Your work will reflect WellSpan’s commitment to patient care excellence, community involvement, and continuous improvement. This position is ideal for a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician who is detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about using laboratory science to impact patient care. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment, collaborating across disciplines, and adapting to new technologies and evolving standards. In return, WellSpan Health offers a supportive workplace, meaningful day-to-day work, and a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement savings options, and resources that support your long-term career development.
