Position Overview: Join the Pain Management and Opioid Safety Center of Excellence (PMOS-COE) as a core clinical provider on the National Tele-Pain Addiction Consult (TPAC) Service. This is a temporary position with a not-to-exceed (NTE) appointment. In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in a collaborative team environment, supporting clinical care, teaching, research, and administrative activities.

Key Responsibilities:

    \n
  • Provide telehealth consultations for Veterans with complex pain conditions and co-occurring SUD or OUD, referred from VA facilities nationwide.
  • \n
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, risk stratification, and develop individualized treatment plans for a broad spectrum of pain conditions.
  • \n
  • Initiate and manage pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments, including opioid and non-opioid analgesics, adjuvant therapies, interventional approaches, and multimodal pain management strategies.
  • \n
  • Initiate and manage medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) in collaboration with referring VA providers.
  • \n
  • Offer same-day access and treatment initiation in alignment with the TPAC bridge clinic model, delivering short-term follow-up until transition to long-term local services.
  • \n
  • Provide clinical support to VA facilities lacking on-site pain medicine specialists and help fulfill VHA Pain Management Team (PMT) requirements.
  • \n
  • Use Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based approaches.
  • \n
  • Collaborate with TPAC inter-professional team members and contribute to optimizing clinical workflows and patient outcomes.
  • \n
  • Contribute to TPAC protocol development, standard operating procedures, and national initiatives.
  • \n
  • Teach medical students, residents, and fellows; encouraged and supported to pursue a UCLA clinical faculty appointment.
  • \n
  • Engage in PMOS-COE educational activities (e.g., webinars, CME, grand rounds, peer consultations) for VA providers nationally.
  • \n
  • Participate in PMOS-COE research, quality improvement, and implementation science initiatives.
  • \n

Required Qualifications:

\n
    \n
  • MD. or D.O. from an accredited institution.
  • \n
  • Completion of an accredited residency in a clinical specialty.
  • \n
  • Current, unrestricted medical license in at least one U.S. state.
  • \n
  • Board eligible or board certified in a primary clinical specialty.
  • \n
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties outlined in privilege delineation.
  • \n

  Preferred Qualifications:

\n
    \n
  • Fellowship or post-residency clinical experience in Pain Medicine, Addiction Medicine, PM&R, Anesthesiology, Neurology, Rheumatology, Palliative Care, or related fields.
  • \n
  • Board certification in Pain Medicine or Addiction Medicine.
  • \n
  • Experience managing complex pain conditions, SUD/OUD, or co-occurring pain and addiction.
  • \n
  • Familiarity with opioid safety practice, risk stratification, prescription monitoring, and naloxone co-prescribing.
  • \n
  • Prescribing and managing MOUD/analgesic therapies.
  • \n
  • Experience with VA EHR platforms (CPRS/VistA) and telehealth delivery.
  • \n
  • Eligibility and interest in a UCLA clinical faculty appointment (supported by PMOS-COE).
  • \n

Work Schedule: On-site, Monday Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • \n
  • Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine
  • \n
  • Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • \n
  • Residency: Must have completed residency in an accredited core specialty
  • \n
  • Certification: BC/BE Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • \n

  • Salary Range: $285,000 -$350,000, Final Salary determination within this range.
  • \n
